Odds and Ends

Half-marathon training update: I've decided to (hopefully) run in the all-women half marathon in Central Park on April 3, providing that I don't have any outstanding conflicts, namely with shows I'd be doing. Studio shows load in on Sundays, so that could be an issue, but I'm going to try my darndest to keep that day clear.

I also ran 2.2 miles on Thursday! Now some would look at this with alarm, as I have to run roughly 7 times that distance less than three months from now. However, you should know that I haven't run a mile since probably sophomore year of high school, and even then I never broke the ten-minute mark. (Sigh... my best time ever was 10:24. Is it sad that I remember so vividly being near the end of the pack? Hopefully that will not be the case come April 23.) Don't get me wrong-- I usually work out (kind of ) often and over the summer would bike the 14 miles to and from work. I wouldn't say by any stretch of the imagination that I am in shape, but I can hold my own in some respects. Just not running. Or, for that matter, upper-body strength. I still have yet to complete a full and correct push up. In my entire life. Maybe that should have been my new year's resolution.

But in any case I feel quite accomplished about my little run. I've found a training plan online that I plan to modify for my inadequacies but I hope to run at least 3.5 miles tomorrow. The plan says to do four but judging from my wheezing on Thursday that may be a stretch.

Since my return to California, save one pork tamale shortly after disembarking the plane, I have returned to pescetarianism, which I'm truly happy about. I'm considering the move to full-fledged vegetarianism as it is a) cheaper and b) more ethical, but the thought of giving up crab makes me want to cry. But I did acquire a large vegetarian cookbook for Christmas, which I'm excited to dig into in New York, and I've been following The Chubby Vegetarian. It's a food blog with gorgeous vegetarian recipes and pictures to boot. Check it out-- it looks delicious!
