Over the past two days I have rediscovered how much I love, love, LOVE New York.
I've had little reunions with friends I haven't seen in forever, gone to Trader Joe's (and yes, the line was ATROCIOUS) and today I ran for the first time outdoors in the city since I've gotten back.
I decided to run to Central Park because I'd get to see a good chunk of the city that way and the round trip was just about the five miles prescribed on my running plan. So I laced up my brand new beautiful shoes and took off.
My time getting to the park was abysmal, mostly due to the many stoplights I encountered on the way. I was just about to turn around and head home when I remembered one beautiful, shining beacon in the distance: THE MET. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of my favorite places in the city. I can't even count the times I've been there and can recite the basic facts of many of my favorite pieces there by heart. I often go to visit them, to keep them company. There's a portrait of Vsevolod Garshin I love, Madame X of course, and anything by Gerard David, a Netherlandish painter from around 1500 who does these beautiful religious works.
Anyway, the Met is located on Fifth Avenue and about 80th Street. I was at 59th Street when I decided to go, and thought it was only at 69th Street. I spent some lovely time at the museum, then ran the 3.7 miles home, freezing all the way.
It was a lovely afternoon. Since then, I've been trying to stay warm and prepare for my first day of classes tomorrow (!). I'm so excited to see everyone from studio and to be back at my home-away-from-home there.
Hope you're warmer than I am!
