It's now 2011 and I'm back safe at home in California after a whirlwind last few weeks in Shanghai, a lovely Christmas holiday, and the best week ever on the beach in Hawaii with my family, reading and swimming. Speaking of reading, I finished two-TWO!!-books on my 100 best list: The Catcher in the Rye and Never Let Me Go. I also read three other books including The Road by Cormac McCarthy, U is for Undertow, and re read 1984. I'd recommend all of them, but as usual the books from my 100 best list were mindblowing. And now I really want to see the movie version of Never Let Me Go, which is currently in between theaters and DVD.
Anyway, I miss Shanghai a lot. I miss my new friends, the food, the crazy lights everywhere, and being in a big city, but I have to say that being home is amazing. I'm visiting with old friends and relaxing and gearing up to reunite with my one true love, New York City. I cannot wait to be back. I've also been proposing projects for next semester back at Playwrights Horizons, which I'm really excited about.
I'm just really excited for this year in general. I feel good things coming. I've also made six new year's resolutions that I'm really hopeful about fulfilling. Last year my resolutions were to visit new places on three continents (check), learn Chinese (check ish) and Spanish (uhh kind of?), get healthier (...), and make new friends (check plus!). On the whole I think I did pretty well with those. Here are mine for 2011:
- Run and FINISH a half marathon!!!
- Explore America: visit at least twelve new places in ten states. (CA, NY, and HI do count.)
- Make new friends and acquaintances.
- Put on a great show this spring and in the fall.
- Continue learning Chinese. Learn Spanish.
- Be on time.
Happy new year's to you and good luck with all YOUR resolutions!
