All My Children

For the past few weeks, I have been going into a migrant classroom, as I previously told you, with several of my classmates, including my roommate who teaches with me. She did a great job explaining it on her blog, but basically if you're a migrant in Shanghai, your kids can't attend the public schools and you lose many of the benefits that local Shanghainese have.

So these schools for migrant children were started, and we teach at just one of them. The building is a garish yellow and green color. Some of the students' teeth are literally black. The "bad" children (including some that I privately believe have learning disabilities) sit in the back row, while the good children are in the front. But it's much, MUCH better than no school at all.

We teach English there through a program called Stepping Stones. It's so much fun, if exhausting. But I love kids and have a blast. They're like little vampires. They say "good ewening" in stead of "good evening." And they trample us at breaktimes. (See the pictures). But they're such great kids and I really enjoy my time there.
